His twenty-first

In just over 30 minutes I’m off to have a classic beer with my son, for the first time. Honestly, I’m nearly ecstatic over this. My daughter passed this line over two years ago and now my boy has also. I’m looking forward to seeing the two of them finally catch on to there being many more finish lines.

He called me, earlier, saying disappointedly that he didn’t get carded this afternoon at the liquor store. I wonder why?

No sense of grief about my youngest flying the coup has hold of me. I need no polish on my boot from kicking his butt out the door.

My joy is in their sharing these transitions in life with me.
