A Thousand Splendid Suns

read_book_a_thousand_splendid_suns_online_for_freeLast evening, “A Thousand Splendid Suns”, brought a wonderful mix of tears and joy into my life. Over the past week or so, as I listened to Atossa Leoni read the story of Mariam and Laila, I remembered those extreme cases of domestic violence my career had drawn me into. Tears don’t often flow down my cheeks and reading has almost never primed that pump, but this time I shed tears every evening. A fresh rage was rekindled by man who brutalized two women, rejected a daughter, thought not his, while adoring his first and only son.
